Review of 5 of the Best Dry Body Oil Sprays You Need To Try

If you add one thing to your summer beauty regimen

…it should be a dry oil body spray!

Why I turned to dry oil body sprays

Personally, despite having combination skin on my face, much of my skin, particularly on my legs, can get really dry, even in the summer. I stay hydrated, eat relatively healthy, but no matter.

In the south, however, the heat and humidity make it pretty miserable to use lotion, because sometimes it doesn’t absorb as quickly or feels like it’s literally melting off my skin like butter. It’s in a word, miserable. Then I found dry oil.

What is dry oil?

It sounds counterintuitive, I know. A dry oil? But the term “dry” actually refers to how your skin absorbs the oil. While massage oils tend to sit on top of your skin, dry oils are absorbed much more quickly. So you get the moisturizing benefits of an oil in a much more lightweight form and without a greasy feeling.

What’s not to love? Some have extra agents to provide a beautiful luminous glow. I’ve tried several, and I want to share my experiences with you. I tried dry oils from these brands: Ahava, Moroccanoil, Artistry, Kiel’s and This Works.

Ahava Dry Oil Body Mist, $42.50

I like Ahava because they use natural ingredients. All Ahava products are vegan, paraben free and have no sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS), Phthalates or Triclosan. Their products have been allergy tested so have been proven safe for sensitive skin.

Ahava carries dry oil body sprays in 4 scents—mandarin & cedar, sea-kissed, prickly pear & moringa and cactus & pink pepper. They all contain jojoba seed oil, sesame seed oil and vitamin E. It comes in a frosted glass bottle, so it will also look good on your counter top, too.

The scent I tried was cactus and pink pepper, which is one of the most highly rated scents. When I sprayed it, it produced a nice fine mist. The first thing I noticed about the scent was a sweetness, but it was not too overpowering. Then I smelled the spicy, warm pink pepper.

It’s a feminine, sexy scent, and not too girly. It required very little massaging in after I sprayed it onto my skin.

Available in a 3.4 oz spray bottle.

Artistry Studio Multi-Purpose Dry Oil Spray, $26

Artistry Studio Multi-Purpose Dry Oil Spray

This is a multi-purpose dry oil spray that you can use on your body and hair. It contains jojoba and soybean oils.

I like this one, too. The scent is very girly, I can’t quite put my finger on it. But if you like floral or candy scents, you might like this one. This comes in a plastic bottle and produces a fairly fine mist, but not as fine as the Ahava product. The bottle didn’t become slippery.

It provided a good level of moisture and I would say this one was the driest and absorbed into my skin the fastest of them all. The advertising on the site says that there is no slippery after feel, and it’s true. I didn’t have to do any extra massaging into my skin, so it’s perfect if you’re in a hurry, or you just don’t want to get extra product on your hands.

Available in a 3.4 oz spray bottle.

MoroccanOil Dry Body Oil, $29 - $48

I was fairly familiar with this brand, having used some of their hair products. This dry body oil has the same pleasant scent of the other Moroccanoil hair products.

However, I found the formulation to be on the oilier side. It required an extra step in that I had to massage the product into my skin just a bit, and it took several minutes to absorb into my skin. The glass bottle also became slippery in my hand after a couple of uses.

If I was in a rush, this would really annoy me. But I was happy with the level of hydration—my skin was really soft and moisturized well.

This is available in a 1.7 oz and 3.4 oz spray.

Kiehl’s Since 1851 Creme de Corps Nourishing Dry Body Oil, $17.50 - $34

Kiehl’s is a great brand that has a long reputation of putting out quality products.

This body oil contains squalane and grape seed oil. The scent is described as vanilla and almond, but I found this to be very heavy on the vanilla and little almond scent. It smelled a little like coconut to me. Personally, I didn’t care for the scent.

The level of moisturization was good, however. Otherwise it is a solid option. This is one of 2 that came in a smaller option (2.5 oz vs 5.9 oz full size), so that you can put it in your carry on bag or toss it in your gym bag.

This Works Skin Deep Dry Leg Oil, $73

This product combines 7 cold-pressed plant oils and 9 essential oils into a body oil that smells like you came straight from the spa. The oils include peach kernel, coconut, jojoba, macadamia, rose hip seed, bergamot, cedar wood, frankincense and sandalwood.

The product, unlike the others, comes in a pump bottle, which dispenses the oils, not a spray.

This is one of the oilier ones of the bunch right out of the bottle, but it goes on silky smooth. It also looks like your skin drinks it up as soon as you massage it in. The scent alone was enough to make me fall in love, but the fact that it absorbed so quickly and the level of moisturization was excellent.

Comes in a 4 oz pump.

This one is worth the splurge!

The Results of this Dry Body Oil Experiment

The driest: Artistry Studio

The most moisturizing: This Works

The most like a true oil: Moroccanoil

Best for travel: Kiehl‘s or Artistry

Best scent (in my opinion): Ahava or This Works

I had a lot of fun trying out all these dry body oils. What dry body oil do you use yourself? Share with me by commenting below….
